We’ve made some jokes around here lately because there’s this television commercial and, well, sometimes I am that guy. Not quite to that extreme, but I do have this habit of making my love a handmade valentine every year. She claims I missed last year. She might be right about that; it was a crazy time. The fact that I can’t even remember whether I missed it probably means that she’s right.
These valentines often refer to current events in our lives. For example, the year I was busy wiring our studios, I made a giant heart and arrow out of Romex.
So this year’s valentine, naturally, is another one of my daily landscape paintings. There’s a pun here, too — a lot of the imagery I have been using is from Nebraska. There is a town called Valentine, Nebraska, and that’s the part of the state where we took our honeymoon. (We rented a ranch house in the middle of nowhere for a week — the quietest week I have ever experienced. And after the flurry of the wedding, it was exactly what we needed.)
So here’s the valentine for 2010. It’s a heart-shaped panel about 7″ across and about 2″ deep:
